Welcome! My name is Shaher Zakaria, and I am an assistant professor of political science, American government, and international relations at Lusail University. Growing up in the Middle East, I was always curious about politics generally and American politics specifically. Eighteen years earlier, I left the Middle East for the United States to embark on a long journey of learning, research, understanding, and fulfilling that curiosity I’ve always felt towards the United States and its government/politics. Today, as an assistant professor of political science, I focus on politics and public policy, sustainable development, American government, the Constitution, Presidency, Congress, and democracy as well as anti-democratic features and measures taking place in American politics today. I also haven’t forgotten about my background, and I focus on Middle Eastern Affairs and international relations as well. I strive to educate, inspire, and help my students, as well as others, understand and make sense of the current complex issues facing the Middle east, the United States, and the world.
